John Halgrim was a young boy of fifteen. He had a dream that stretched
well beyond his young years. John had a vision to help others less fortunate
than himself.
Throughout his life, John's heart was always open and his encouraging spirit
shone through, even at his weakest moments. He was constantly thinking of
others. What made John so special was that he was starting a foundation
while undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. John was diagnosed at the age
of thirteen with a malignant anaplastic astrocytoma.
For two years John underwent treatment in his hometown of Ft Myers,
Florida and at St Jude's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. While undergoing
treatment he was approached by Make-A-Wish Foundation who kindly
offered to work with John to grant him the wish he always wanted. John
decided not to receive a wish for himself.
John's wish was to help the children in Nairobi, Kenya. He wanted these
children to have a better start in life with improved food programs, education
and a safe environment to grow up in through churches and orphanages.
Unfortunately, Make-A-Wish could not cater to John's dream. His dream was
too big.
Throughout his illness, John never looked inward or dwelt on his own
circumstances. His thoughts stretched well beyond himself, to his family,
community, and the world.
John lost his battle with cancer on November 10th, 2007 but his spirit lives
on. Now his family and friends are working to make his dream a reality.
Please join us to help the children in Nairobi, Kenya.
